Chin up!

Postby Lankin » Fri Jul 13, 2012 5:54 am

It seems that everyone around here is currently either sick, terminally overworked, far from home, or a combination of those, adding to general hardships of life.

See you around at the next port ;)

(via MusicForAWhile)

No, che non ha la sorte
più sventure per me. Tutte in un giorno,
tutte, oh Dio, le provai.
Perdo lamico, minsulta la germana,
maccusa il genitor, piange il mio bene
e tacer mi conviene,
e non posso parlar.
Dove si trova un anima che sia
tormentata così come la mia?
Ma, giusti dei, pietà! Se a questo passo
lo sdegno vostro a danno mio savanza,
pretendete da me troppa costanza.

Vo solcando un mar crudele
senza vele e senza sarte:
freme londa e il ciel simbruna,
cresce il vento e manca larte,
e il voler della fortuna
son costretto a seguitar.
Infelice! in questo stato
son da tutti abbandonato:
meco è sola linnocenza
che mi porta a naufragar.

P.Metastasio

English translation via:

No, destiny has no more misfortunes
in store for me. In a single day
I have suffered them all:
the loss of my friend, the insults of my sister,
my father’s accusations, my beloved’s tears,
and I must remain silent,
I cannot speak out.
Where is another soul as
tormented as mine to be found?
But mercy, just gods! If your anger
is aimed at harming me,
you expect of me too much constancy

I must plough a cruel sea
without sails or rigging:
the waves are surging, the sky darkening,
the wind building, and I cannot steer,
I have no choice but to follow
the will of destiny.
Poor wretch! in this state
am I by all abandoned:
my only companion is innocence,
and it is leading me toward shipwreck.

*sob ... *hugging blanket, or right atm rather *hugging coffee mug

I prefer the live version too, or the version in my head, which leaves out the fat edit fail of the recorded version. OUCH.

I find all of the Carestini CD and the Dolce Fiamma CD extremely good painkillers, I must say.

Migraine? Put them on, and it will go away.

Same happens with a lot of Bach, btw.

Actually, I found that Bach helps, but I prefer instrumental pieces; to listen to a voice when I have migraine is just too much, it's like drilling into my brain with a delicious silver screwdriver.

No, in fact they are a source of the neverending pain of lovesickness! :P

Terminally bored...

I like to listen to him when I try to fall asleep. The fast songs in Heroes, Carestini work best. But Opium is not soporific at all.

After six bronchitis, a pneumonia, a sinusitis, an otitis and a laryngitis in 4 months, I can, alas, do nothing but agree with you on the actuality of this post.

But though the last course may have been the worst one in terms of Nebenwirkungen, it might also have worked, because I finally got my hearing back and I can breathe through my nose again.

Now just one more step: get my voice back. I have to sing for the First Communion of the children of our church this next Ascencionday, and i still sound like I am on a liter of Vodka and two packs of Gauloises a day.

Listening to a lot of music proved to be extremely therapeutical. It calmed me down, lowered my racing hartrate and relaxed my muscle spasms and reduced my fever. And none did it better than PJ. Hmmm... And Hallenberg. And Mena. And Kermes. And Hunt-Lieberson. :D And Esswood. Daniels. But absolutely nothing was as soothing as PJ doing Vivaldi with Spinosi.

A strictly veggie diet and a lot of sleep are already working miracles, but thanx.:)

My primary concern is now Haydns Missa Brevis Joannes de Deo. I have to get that in by ear for next Sunday, and I haven't even got the notes yet. Fortunately I don't have to learn the lyrics anymore. :D

I got the music per voice done by a computer, and it sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks. I am roflolling here!

Go to the Gloria for the alto. Hilarious. This made my day.
